Lamina Vessels

Blown Glass, Marble Stand

Approx. 6"x6"x6" each

2018

The design of these objects are simultaneously inspired by the natural formation of pearls and the process of industrial shrink-wrapping.  First, a simple sphere is hand-blown and opened. Then multiple thin, hot bubbles are inflated inside of the sphere until completely filling the interior space.  After about ten bubble layers are applied in this manner, the glass appears to have a pearlescent sheen, accentuated by the thin areas of space remaining between each thin layer.  Each vessel is unique, with a round, polished bottom and a custom marble stand, allowing the forms to be displayed in any angle or orientation.
